Development Day @ Salt Rock Beach...
 
 

The development surfing day that was postponed during the Mr. Price Pro Ballito as a result of heavy surf conditions was run on Tuesday 7 th July at Salt Rock beach.

An initiative of the Kwa Dukuza Municipality, to introduce surfing to children who would not normally engage in the sport during the Mr, Price Pro surfing event. The task team involved in the planning of the main event, identified Tammy-Lee Smith, Bernice Hutchinson and Steve Honneysett to put together a fun day for these children.

In conjunction with Nhlanhla Sanga (Kwa Dukuza Municipality) Alex Leicth (Imvumo), Mike Smith, Bongani Xulu (Secret Spot Surf Camp) and Tammy-Lee Professional surfer, children where identified from various local schools.

Children where treated with a great day on the beach and thoroughly enjoyed the day. A learn 2 surf lesson, paddle battle in the tidal pool, ABC of Surfing lesson on the beach and surfing lessons in the ocean, where they did extremely well.

They continued with some beach soccer and flags racing on the beach and enjoyed cold drinks, biscuits cakes and a lunch. Some of the children's parents spent the day, also had fun watching and encouraging they children, it was a great day.

The following sponsors assisted with ensuring a successful day, Lifestyle super Spar with food, Island Style with leashes for the surfboards, Mr.Price with give away items for goody bags. Bobby Atwell from a local sport manufacturing company Ekulutheka sponsored soccer goal posts and helped set up the beach arena for the kids to play soccer and flags.

Ballito surfers Union a recently formed association kindly put together R2, 000.00 to assist with some of the costs which was an excellent show of good faith. Some 12 local surfers also gave of there time to assist as helpers/Coaches on the day.

Alan Johns of Coastal tool hire set up and sponsored a generator to power music for the kids, that was done by D.J Ndate.

Tammy-Lee and Bongani Xulu from The Secret Spot Surf Camp carried out the surf coaching for the day and Linda Hlope presented water safety and life guarding to the children. Vusi's team of Salt Rock lifeguards also assisted.

The Secret Spot Surf Camp in conjunction with Invumo, provided all the surfboards, equipment, food preparation, planning of the day and transport for the children.
